Purpose
WHO are we?
We are the advocates for the students of Monte Verde Elementary School. The PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization and part of the California PTA, a 100% volunteer organization run by parents and teachers.
WHAT do we do?
We help organize fundraising activities and events to engage the students, teachers and families in our children's success.
WHERE do we meet?
For 2023-24 School Year we will be meeting at the Multiple Use Room (MUR).
WHEN do we meet?
The general PTA meetings will meet monthly on the first Thursday at 6:30 pm. Please see calendar for actual dates.
WHY do we need a PTA?
Strong family-school partnerships make big differences. When families and schools work together, our kids win. Well-informed, engaged parents make a difference for student success in school and beyond. A home environment that encourages learning is a bigger factor in student achievement than a parent's income, education level or cultural background. Whether it's reading together, monitoring homework at the kitchen table, talking to teachers about a child's progress, joining PTA or taking an active part in school governance and decision-making, parent involvement is vital to student achievement.
PTA Membership
The Monte Verde Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer organization that works to support the students and staff of a school. The PTA is an important resource for schools and the families they serve. By getting involved in the PTA, you can make a difference in the lives of your children and their classmates.
Here are some specific examples of the roles that a PTA can play:
Advocating for students. The PTA can advocate for students on a variety of issues, such as school funding, curriculum, and teacher quality. For example, the PTA could lobby the school board to increase funding for after-school programs, or they could work with teachers to develop a new curriculum for math.
Raising funds. The PTA can raise funds to support school programs and activities. For example, the PTA could hold a school carnival or a bake sale to raise money for new playground equipment, or they could organize a car wash to raise money for field trips.
Organizing events. The PTA can organize events that bring the school community together, such as fundraisers, field trips, and parent-teacher conferences. For example, the PTA could organize a back-to-school night to welcome new families to the school, or they could host a holiday party for students and their families.
Providing resources. The PTA can provide resources to parents and teachers, such as information on parenting, education, and child development. For example, the PTA could create a website with information on parenting resources in the community, or they could provide teachers with training on how to use new technology in the classroom.
Building relationships. The PTA can build relationships between parents, teachers, and administrators. This can help to create a more positive and supportive school environment. For example, the PTA could host a monthly coffee hour for parents and teachers to get to know each other, or they could organize a teacher appreciation day to show their appreciation for the hard work of the school staff.
If you are interested in getting involved in your child's PTA, there are a few things you can do. First, attend a PTA meeting. This is a great way to learn more about the PTA and how you can get involved. Second, volunteer for a committee. There are many different committees that need volunteers, such as fundraising, events, and communications. Third, run for office. If you are interested in making a bigger impact, you can run for a position on the PTA board.
Getting involved in your child's PTA is a great way to make a difference in the lives of your children and their classmates. By working together, we can create a better future for our schools and children.
